Never a dull moment!!

Can I just begin by saying that God is great? I am so grateful that He has placed me where I am today...in a wonderful family and community. It is so great to be on the receiving end of God's grace (I'm still learning how to show His grace to others).

Since the start of school last September, we have all learned so much. I tell you, it's only by God's strength that I get up (almost) every morning with the amount of energy I have to teach Eden and Lincoln, tend to my sweet Nyla, and prepare the house for Ben's return home from work. Is it a breeze? NO; but, I never expected it to be easy. I take every challenge that comes along and TRY to make the best of it so that God gets the glory. I WANT to be a great mother/teacher to my kids; I WANT to and SHOULD take care of our home well so that my husband looks forward to coming home. AND I want to do all of these CHEERFULLY!!! Only with God's help!!

It's so neat to be able to see that my kids ARE learning. What a reward!!! Eden is reading sight words and Lincoln knows how to spell his name. WOW!!! They are always ready to learn something new.

Our family took a trip to Belize this Christmas and we had a blast!! Ben and I were very nervous about the flights but everything went smoothly. It's incredible how 7 days can fly by so fast. It was so great to see my family!! One highlight of our trip was that my parents sent us to Caye Caulker for 2 nights while they kept all three kids. What a relaxing vacation that was. Ben and I had time to ourselves and it was nice that the only decision we had to make was where we were going to eat the next meal. Pretty nice! I'm grateful to my parents for that. Knowing that my kids were well taken care of allowed me to really relax.

So, it's 2012; a new year!! God has really been challenging me spiritually and emotionally. It's been worth it. My attitude is better each day and I'm learning to prioritize. I want to be a better christian, wife, mom, and friend. It's helped to start out my day reminding myself Matthew 6:33 and Lamentations 3:21-24.

Well, I am happy to report that we survived the first week of Preschool and Tot School. The months of planning definitely make things easier on my part. Eden also started Awana Cubbies so she can have interaction with kids her own age. This is taking some adjustment but we're getting there.

So I've decided to blog about how our week went and share different ideas. Let me begin by saying that most of the ideas are from blogs/websites that I've browsed. You'll find a list of those sites on the right of my blog page under Educational.

We start the day with Calender Time. We sing the Days of the Week song and indicate which days are Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. Then, we sing the Months of the Year song. I have the kids turn the wheel to find the right season and weather. The maps of Belize and US are to familiarize them with where they live and where I grew up. We then go over the Character Trait for the month. This month, we did Orderly. The verse they learned is 1 Cor 14:40 (with actions). I then showed and instructed them on how to be orderly by making their beds. *NOTE* Click on images to zoom in.

Here are sample forms I use for planning the week: Several ideas I also got from Department of Education of Lousiana criteria for PreK. I actually found their detailed curriculum and grade level expectations:

Preschool

I put all of Eden's printable worksheet in protective plastic so she could use dry erase markers and we can reuse the worksheets. We did graphing, writing, power point on shapes, and other things related to the theme. I tried to make sure that we covered Language, Math, Science, Music, Computer, Bible, Writing, Art, Fine Motor skills, and Gross Motor skills.

Tot School

Lincoln loves school. He even tags along when I'm helping Eden. I will try to cover the following every week:

I also made lunch fun. Since we learned about the Body this week, I used a hand and foot cookie cutter to make shaped quesadillas. Wilton has a cookie cutter set that I am so glad I bought from Walmart. It makes lunch time so much more fun.

Here's my Cubbie. She started Awana 3 weeks ago and still cries when I drop her off but when I pick her up, she's always so excited to tell me about her night. The leaders say that after I leave, she snaps out of it and has a blast. She got her first patch last night:) I'm so glad we are making her do this. She needs time away from me and time with other adults and kids her own age. Thankfully, we don't have to drive very far.

So there, that's a condensed version of our week. Our schedule is still flexible because I have an almost 2 month old (what? when did that happen?) I also need to attend to. We're making the best of it all and I'm so glad I have God to call upon every morning and throughout the day for guidance in raising and teaching these precious gifts.

Homemaker/Preschool/Tot School

Some people may consider me to be a 'tight' one and that may be so; but I prefer to call it 'frugality'. Even though we have a little extra every month, I still find ways to save so that we have more to give. (I'm so grateful that Ben has the gift of Giving). Mind you, we splurge on ourselves once in a while but I think we've done well with reigning ourselves in if one of us feels hesitant. Here are some ways I'm saving:

A friend gave me the ingredients for 1 batch of homemade laundry detergent and I finally made it. Here's the recipe:

5 gallon bucket or container with lid

4 Cups - hot tap water

1 Fels-Naptha soap bar (ivory soap can also be used)

1 Cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda

½ Cup Borax

Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.

Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.

Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. It will gel.

Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.

Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.

Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

Front Load Machines- ¼ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

*NOTE* I do not use this for my baby. I might try making a batch with Ivory soap for her clothes.

So, call me crazy but I've decided to do preschool and tot school at home this year. I am so excited and nervous at the same time, but mostly excited that I get to have a more structured plan in teaching my children. Some of my friends are going to laugh at me because I've said for a while that I wasn't going to homeschool because I didn't consider myself a teacher and I don't have the patience for it. I still find those two things to be true but I'm going with it anyway. It's like a test to see if it's for our family or not. I will probably put Eden in regular school next year for the same reason. I want us to experience both options. Ben and I are on the same page (just so you know). I've incorporated several ideas from the internet into a curriculum for E and L. L's curriculum is more play than school but the activities will prepare him for preschool. E's curriculum has some play activities but she has more worksheets. What's neat is that I'm also going to include Biblical Character Traits in the curriculum. Thanks to the Motherhood Bible Study I was a part of in the Spring, I have all the information I need on that.

During the summer, I 'tested out the waters' on a couple themes. We had school on July 4th and the day after we saw the Winnie the Pooh movie in theaters. They went well. We also did a fun art project about Creation.

School begins the first Monday in Sept. since I need the rest of this month to finish planning. My goal is to glorify God through this and not end up pulling all my hair out:) He's the only one that can help me not lose my cool. We'll see if this is what he has planned for us. I hope to update my blog on some of the school days and unit studies that we've done.

P.S. Ben was homeschooled and I went to public school so we know the ins and outs of both. I know some parents can get overly 'passionate' about this subject so please refrain from being judgmental about one or the other.

Welcome to the world, Nyla Marie

Suprise!!!! We had a baby girl on Friday. Exactly 10 days before her due date, I went into labor. Here is the story of my 13 hour labor and the delivery of our sweet Nyla Marie.

First off, we decided early on in the pregnancy that we didn't want to know the sex of the baby. Since we have a girl and a boy already (and I saved everything), we thought it would be neat to know what it feels like to be surprised. We found out with both E and L so that we knew how to plan and prepare for their arrival. This time around, the only planning needed was to stock up on diapers and wipes:)

The ultrasound technician suggested that she put the picture with the revealed sex, in an envelope, attached to my chart. Apparently, it wasn't smart to even let my doctor know. He might accidentally 'spill the beans.' If she had given it to us, we might have been tempted to open it.

It was exciting not knowing. I didn't mind people giving me their opinion because normally their reasons aren't factual. I couldn't help but wonder if they were right, though. Everyone was saying that it was going to be a boy based on how I was carrying the baby. Then, I showed one of my brother's an ultrasound picture I had and he said he could tell what it was and that it was a boy. I looked at the picture and noticed that he could be right. I still wasn't sure, though. I was a little disappointed that I was given a picture that probably revealed the sex. To further the disappointment, I saw the nurse for one of my appointments and she blurted out, after listening to the heartbeat, "it sounds like a boy." I replied, "we wanted to be surprised." She didn't apologize and I left the appointment very frustrated. Don't get me wrong, we would be happy whether it was a boy or girl, but we just wanted to be surprised.

So, we started to concentrate on boy names for the duration of the pregnancy. We had a list of about 5 names, narrowed it down to two, then finally one. This was only a few days before I went into labor. Still no middle name, though. We had a girl name on our list that we both liked but likewise, didn't look for any middle names.

The Wednesday before having Nyla, I was 2 cm dilated and maybe 25% effaced. My doctor offered if I wanted to induce on Sunday, I could (a week and a day before the due date). This was tempting only because I know my dr would be on vacation the following week and I was concerned with just any dr delivery the baby. Anyway, I decided to just wait and let things progress naturally. It's amazing how God has a sense of humor. I was stressing out all along that maybe I should have scheduled the induction and God knew all along that I was going to start labor by the end of the week.

On Thursday, I felt slight contractions but just thought they were Braxton Hicks. I went to sleep fine that night and then woke up suddenly at 3:30 AM with what I thought were just gas pains. I couldn't go back to sleep especially after feeling the same pain consistently, every 10 minutes. I got up, packed my suitcase and prepared myself for possibly going to the hospital that day (Fri). Ben had a full day at work planned and so when I woke him up around 5:00 AM to tell him that I had started labor, poor guy had to figure out who he needed to call and make sure things were going to be taken care of. Around 6:30 I decided to call Ben's cousin and his wife to see if they could take care of the kids that day and they immediately came over to pick them up. Let me just say that with my other pregnancies, I was only in labor for 7 hours so that is why I had to plan my day with the thought that I could have the baby that same day.

Ben and I drove to the hospital around 7:30 and I was monitored for about an hour and a half to see if I was progressing enough for them to admit me. Unfortunately, I hadn't during that time and they were going to schedule an induction the following night. I broke down because the contractions were now 6 minutes about and already very painful. I couldn't imagine going back home. Ben requested that they check me one more time just to make sure. What to you know within that short time I was now 4 cm dilated and 80% effaced. YES!!!!!!!! They had to admit me, then. I was so excited. I was put in an actual LDR and requested an epidural. Well, of course they took a long time. There were so many women in labor that day that everything took twice as long. I finally was able to relax after the epidural and Ben and I rested and made sure we had the boy name down pact. My water broke early that afternoon and I knew things would progress quickly.

After 13 hours in labor, I felt the urge to push. The nurse immediately called the doctor and after checking me, they were both running around the room like chickens with their heads cut off getting everything together. The other nurse came in to get the baby stuff ready, too. I pushed twice and my sweet baby was out. They had Ben check to see the sex so he would be the first to tell me. He stared with a puzzled looked on his face and I thought to myself, this shouldn't be difficult, Ben. I mean, really. Why are you taking so long. He finally spoke up and said, "It's...it's a, girl." I broke down crying because I had longed for that element of surprise, and I got it. We had a GIRL!!!! The nurse asked her name and well, we weren't sure:) We told her the first name but we'd have to get back to her for the middle.

I held my baby for a long time before they took her to the nursery to clean up. Like I said, the delivery ward was swamped with patients. I was grateful for that time we had with her. I then mentioned to Ben that we could just use my middle name. He quickly agreed. Yes! She had a name, Nyla Marie.

We are so grateful for our sweet baby. She is such a blessing to our family and we praise God for allowing us the privilege of being her parents.

Well, I am VERY pregnant and with five more weeks to go, I'm counting down the days. Third time around, it's taking a toll on this small frame - painful spider veins, back and hip ache, and not enough room in this tummy for baby to stretch without causing me some serious discomfort. I must say, I am REALLY looking forward to holding this precious one in my arms. I'm very grateful that I feel the baby moving a lot even if it hurts:)

I'm at home a lot more now due to Bible Study and ESL being over; and, trying to be creative so that my Eden and Lincoln are occupied with fun things to do. I've also been in nesting mode so here's what we've been up to lately:

Cooking and eating yummy homemade food; organizing

Just being goofy

I have a week to myself and my husband while the kids are with grandparents. I'm resting and reading and being just plain lazy during the day. Tomorrow, Ben and I are going to a painting class and Friday night is my baby shower that some sweet friends decided to have for me. Can't wait!!!

New Happenings

Wow, it's been a while, huh? A lot has happened since December and it's amazing how 2011 is just flying by. We've been busy (in the good sense of the term) and grateful to God for growing our family in number and growing us spiritually.

Ben has really been involved in our church. I am so grateful that God is using him and that he's being obedient. It's so neat to have him be the spiritual leader in our home. We've had such great conversations about our spiritual lives recently and as a result, we are becoming much more closer.

I have the pleasure of being a part of a motherhood Bible Study. I approach each day in prayer asking God to guide me in helping my children build godly character. My photography is going well. I had several sessions last year and looking forward to my upcoming one in March. I'm learning so much and I really enjoy capturing moments. I've set certain goals for myself for this year and I'm grateful that I have a great husband to encourage me to meet those goals. Hopefully, I can start studio sessions soon. Just waiting on more jobs to pay for a portrait lens.

This little girl isn't so little anymore. We are blessed with this child everyday. She is so smart and is eager to learn new things. I love that about her. She's learning Bible verses, learning how to read and write (she can write her own name), and enjoys learning math. I look forward to this summer where we could do more science related things. She loves to pretend play and I do everything I can to encourage her creativity. A few weeks ago, I told her that she was outgrowing her casual shoes and I needed to get her a new pair. She insisted on blue shoes. I later realized she wanted tennis shoes like mine (blue and white). After searching for days, I finally found a pair. She's so excited and grateful.

This little man brings such joy to our lives. He is really showing his personality and I'm so glad I can finally understand what he's saying. He always loved talking but it was always jibber jabber. Now, he's forming works and speaks very coherently. He pays close attention to his sister and learns a lot from her. I love the fact that he still loves to snuggle and bedtime is never a problem. He's not one to sit for long and pay attention like his sister has always been, but he's always learning. He loves the fact that he can now walk really well and even run. He walks like a little man and it's so funny. He has this thing for shoes. As soon as he gets up in the morning he locates a pair of shoes and asks for help putting them on - even while still in his pjs. He is very mannerly and never forgets to say 'please' and 'thank you'.

Meet the newest member of our family: baby #3. We don't know if we're having a boy or girl. In fact, we want it to be a surprise this time. Since we have everything for both sexes, we figured this is a great opportunity to go this route. We are such planners so it's a little difficult to not know; but, I know how special it will be to have Ben be the first to tell me in the hospital if it's a boy or girl.

I praise God for his blessings. Hopefully, I'll be better at updating my blog.

It's that time of year to start deciding what I'm going to do for Christmas cards. I really like the idea of including a family picture into the card and also having an opportunity to share the true meaning of Christmas. So, this year, I've found a few from Shutterfly.com that I really like:

1. Shutterfly card 1

I like the color scheme on this one. It's not the traditional red and green. I also like the fact that I could put multiple pictures.

2. Shutterfly card 2

I like that this one folds and the message is simple but profound. I could even expand the thought to inside the card and even put a bible verse.

3. Shutterfly card 3

This one is neat. I like that I can put my kids' ages especially for family and friends we haven't seen in a long time. And again, I like the color scheme of this one. Black and white pictures always look classy.

In Memory of Ernest Wellington Fuller, my Grandad.

In an effort to gather information to tell my children one day where they came from, I compiled a booklet of my family's history. I remember sitting in my parents' living room with notebook and pen, quickly jotting down information as my paternal grandparents recalled their younger years. I had a blast learning about them and my dad. My Grandad went to be with the Lord this afternoon; and, I have to admit that althought I rejoice in the fact that I will see him again one day, I'm still sad. I guess I'm mostly sad that my daddy is at the airport as I type knowing that he missed saying a temporary 'goodbye' to his dad. Here are the inserts about my Grandad:

I am so glad I was able to speak to my Grandad yesterday. He was very weak and I could barely understand him but I did 'catch' an 'I love you' - and the floodgates opened. All the crying since yesterday has helped me cope and in case you're wondering, I'm ok.

Grandad knew a lot of people and was respected by many in Belize. I remember he didn't like going to Belmopan (where I lived) because it was too boring. He and Granny Chita lived in Belize City and it was where they were comfortable. I remember visiting them often because our dentist was in Belize City and dad and mom would do their bulk shopping there. Grandad had the coolest desk and lots of ledger paper. I would play at his desk pretending to 'work.'

He always looked forward to his next meal. Grandad LOVED meal times. He would enjoy his food like nobody else given that every bite had sound effects:) Sipping his tea was more like slurping. I thought it was funny.

Grandad and Granny never missed sending a birthday card with a little surprise inside. He's definately seen a lot of change in the world, especially technological advancement. In March of this year he wrote me an e-mail. Can you believe it? A 98 year old writing e-mails? I still have that letter and will cherish it. He was always determined and maybe sometimes a little stubborn. Even when he couldn't see well he would hold a book close to his face a read;and, he was adamant about driving his canary yellow car in Belize until finally someone put a stop to that:)

I was so grateful that he was there for my wedding. That was such a special day for me and I'm glad he witnessed and approved my marriage to Ben. My grandparents have been married for 70+ years and what a blessing that is.

I could go on about fond memories of Grandad Ernest. I'm so proud to have been born a Fuller and grateful for my grandad's life.
He didn't make it to his 99th birthday but he lived a LONG life. I'm glad that one day I will see him again in Glory.

My hubby couldn't believe it...

Bought 2 gallons of milk, 6 Sobe lifewaters, and 1 Dawn hand renewal. Spent 39cents with Qs and ECBs. My coupons combined with CVS sale allowed me to get the Sobe drinks for free. I had a coupon $1/1 Dawn detergent and CVS had them on sale for 97cents; therefore, free.

Absolutely had to print out more Sobe Qs and get more free Lifewaters. Came home with 10 for free. I ran out of my stock pile for toilet paper so I bought some with my ECBs. Spent $1.56.

I haven't been diligent in keeping my coupons stocked and organized. I have bought a Sunday paper in a while and most of the Qs that I have now are expired. I guess it doesn't help that my printer ink is empty:) I just have to take it to Walgreens to refill but have been procrastinating. I have, however, been staying within (and sometimes way under) my budget of $60/wk because of Winn Dixie's awesome sales:) I have discovered a couple other things as well to save.

1. Winn Dixie Fuelperks I normally fill up at Racetrac b/c it's cheaper but the Shell on the Westbank near my church is usually the same price; and, since I have to go over there at least twice a week, it works well. This week, I saved 5cents/gallon of gas:)

2. Regions just came out with Rewards for running debit cards as credit. A couple months ago they credited $10 into our checking account for doing that. Now they're offering rewards. Sweet.

3. I received Magic Jack as a gift recently and loaded it on my computer. My parents use it in Belize and now we can call each other for free:) You buy the adapter, plug it in your computer, connect a phone line to it and voila. It's only like $20 annual fee. That's it! I'll be canceling my cox phone service as soon as all the important:)

4. Today I got an amazing deal on the new Biotru contact solution. I noticed the vision center at Walmart had the 4oz bottles for $4. About the display were $4 tear off coupons. I only had to pay tax. So I got several for 35cents each:)

Repainted bookshelf...the memory of a sweet lady.

A sweet lady in our church passed away this year and her daughter decided to have an estate sale of all that was in her house. I went with the intention of finding a bookshelf for Eden's books and ended up finding one that is so adorable. It's solid oak but it was an ugly blue color so I decided to buy it for cheap and paint it white. Eden loves 'her' bookshelf and we have something in our home to remind us of sweet Ms Marjorie. Here are the before and after pics:

I was so excited when I found out Old Navy was having a $2 tank sale. Here's a little tutorial of my version and I even made one for myself:) By the way, I don't know that I'll be making another 'little girl' one soon because it took a long time but I'm so excited for us to wear them with our matching Old Navy white long skirts.

Buy an extra XL tank top. Cut out hearts and overlap three to form a flower.

Start on one shoulder strap

Tuck each flower close to the previously attached on. Hand sew a few stitches in the center.

Go all around the neckline to the next shoulder strap.

Wow, paper dolls have come a long way. I remember playing with them when I was a kid and don't think mine came with a cabana:) The last Vera Bradley catalog came with an insert of punch-out paper dolls, accessories, cabana, umbrellas, and a beach ball. Makes me want to go to the beach (Only 4 more months)!!!! Anyway, I had just as much fun playing with these as Eden did.

It's been 12 months already and I can't believe it's gone by so fast. My sweet baby turns 1 today and I feel very blessed to have such a sweet, healthy son. He is definitely a momma's boy and I love it. He just recently started to crawl. I was beginning to wonder what was going on and then figured out that he's just lazy and chunky:) I love you my sweet Lincoln and I feel privileged to be your mommy. Happy Birthday!

My recent trip to CVS was a great one. I bought two pedialytes (my boy was throwing up on Sun, poor thing) because I had a BOGO coupon from one of the Sunday papers. I also had $3 ECB from a previous purchase. There was a nice little surprise at the end of the receipt.

Well, I'm a little behind on posting this - oops. My son is going to be a year old in just a few weeks and I'm soaking up all the 'babyness' that's left before then. He is not quite crawling yet but will be soon. I think it's a combination of him just being lazy and heavy. He now takes a bath without having to sit in his baby bath. Some of his favorite foods are sweet potatoes, turkey meat, chicken, veg soup, bread (ok almost everything). The boy loves food:) He loves to 'talk' when he gets the chance (Eden is a chatter box). He likes playing peekaboo and pretend to talk on the phone. Here are some pics. Videos to come.

My friend, Jeanna, recently introduced me to a website that is saving me a LOT of money on groceries. It's called Hip2Save. In addition, I have also been advised to check out Southern Savers for similar information. I tell you what: I'M HOOKED!. I started saving and printing a ton of coupons that I would potentially use. My goal is to save more than I spend and work on stock piling so that each week I only have to buy perishable goods. This weekend I did my research online at the stores that I usually shop, made my detailed list, printed/gathered as many coupons that I would be allowed to use and headed to Winn Dixie with my reusable bags in hand. I took advantage of their deal where you buy two Digiorno Pizza's a get Salad, Monkey Bread, 2 liter Mtn. Dew, and Totino's Pizza Rolls for free. I also took advantage of their BOGO sales. The Result: I saved more than I spent and I'm building my stock pile. Mission Accomplished. My new goal is to increase the difference between how much I save to how much I spend. That will come with time and experience. Here are some snapshots of my receipt. Note: I went over budget on my grocery spending but I'll make it up the next few weeks I go.

Whew. Like I said, I have a ways to go before I really start saving more money; but, I have to say that the hubby is very proud of me for gearing toward a more frugal lifestyle.

I may print out more coupons and stock up on these freebies:) The last picture are Animal Crackers that were $1 each perfect for my kids' Easter baskets. To No Avail

This morning I woke up feeling a little sad because I still can't find my ring:( The one place that I hadn't thoroughly looked in was my kids' bedroom. I decided to take everything, except the crib, out. And why not clean while I'm at it!

Although I didn't find my ring, the room was spotless and I even left a pair of flipflops for Eden for when she comes back later today (I can't wait to see my girl).

On a slightly unrelated note, I've been thinking of ways to organize Eden's hairbows and I saw a great idea on a website and decided to make my own version. It turned out pretty cute and I don't have to search through a box for what I need:)

Well, I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for my ring to show up:(

I am head over heels in love with this hat. My daughter, Eden, loves it too. I took her outside to snap some pics and she was running all over the place smiling and giggling. Going green (or pink)

Can I just say how much these shopping bags have made grocery shopping easier? There, I said it! I found myself throwing away majority of the plastic bags from my weekly grocery trips; which, resulted in half my trash container with crushed up bags. Frankly, it didn't seem right to fill up my trash can so quickly. The result: 5 'green' or pink breast cancer awareness bags. They are so nice because they can hold so much more and I can reuse them every week. In addition, I've contributed to a great cause that is near and dear to my heart. It's amazing that I never get more than can fit in those five bags. I don't know how that happens but it works every time. All I have to say is, why haven't I been doing this since they offered them? I encourage you to 'go green' or 'pink' or whatever rocks your boat:)

Lincoln is 10 months

I can't get over the fact that my sweet boy will be 1 year old soon. I love that his little personality is coming out. He is such a fun baby. He gets so excited when Daddy comes home from work and loves having his sister play with him (especially when she plays tea party and lets him have some cake). Here are some pictures of his most recent new happenings:

He figured out all by himself how to drink out of a straw. He got a hold of Eden's one day and within a few seconds, I could see apple juice coming up.

Lincoln is 9 months

My sweet baby boy is 9 months today and I am amazed at how time flies when you have kids. Lincoln is such a big boy, i.e. compared to my petite Eden, that I have a hard time holding him for long periods of time:) Here are some of his recent milestones:

* Reaching for toys that are out of his reach

* eating homemade baby food (I started making and freezing his food to increase fiber in his diet)

* giving Eden (and her baby dolls) kisses.

* trying to drink out of a sippy cut

I am cherishing every moment of these last few months of his 1st year.

Mystery Party

Ben and I were invited to attend a Mystery Party this past Sat and we gladly accepted the invitation. We were given a brief description of our characters and it was so much fun planning and preparing. Initially we were going to be an Italian couple but due to some people not being able to go, our parts were changed. Ben ended up being a French businessman and I was an assistant to a Nuclear Physicist. I tried so hard to practice an Italian accent and was so relieved when I found out my new character was British.

We look forward to maybe hosting one with some of our friends this year!

Lincoln is 8 months

Lincoln is now 8 months and is so much fun. His little personality is very evident. He makes me smile. Here are pictures of some recent happenings:

His new high chair. He is so proud to have his own chair like his big sister's. Cheerios is his favorite snack and he's pretty good at picking them up and eating them.

He got his first toothbrush and does a good job. He loves it when I brush his gums.

He loves his teacher, Ms Cheryl. We attend Lapsit every week.

He thinks it's hilarious looking at his reflection.

Eden does a good job teaching him how to play with his toys. He is learning how to use a hammer.

Making Memories!

I've procrastinated putting pictures up from our tree decorating party. We had so much fun decorating our Frazier Fur, eating sugar cookies, and drinking White Chocolate Dreamer. Eden enjoyed unwrapping all the ornaments and laying them out. She even chose one spot on the tree to put a cluster of ornaments, which I later spread out.

Ben helped Eden put her 1st Christmas ornament on the tree and Abby helped Lincoln put his on.

We look forward every year to the smell of evergreen and it's just fun to have a real tree.

I am so grateful that Eden loves to read books. In fact, she has memorized a few of them. Ben and I are so excited about one of Eden's Christmas presents this year (shh, don't tell her). Ben was browsing the Children's section at Barnes & Nobles and discovered this book:

Thanksgiving '09

This year, we decided to stay home. It was just the four of us and we really enjoyed some sweet family time. We also attempted Thanksgiving Dinner on our own and it turned out great. The menu included, Hickory Smoked Turkey, Gravy, Sweet Potato Casserole, Green Bean Casserole, Stuffing, Rolls, Pinot Noir and Pumpkin Pie. Eden and mommy made the pie the day before and she was such a big helper. Even Lincoln had Sweet Potatoes and Turkey baby food.

Thanksgiving morning, we made pilgrim and indian hats. Eden really enjoyed that project. We ate, took naps and then went to visit some of Abby's family in town. We had a great day.

Lincoln is 7 months and Eden is growing up

Today, Lincoln turns 7 months. Wow, how time has flown. Having a second child is so different from having my first. With Eden, I was always jotting down her 'firsts', taking videos, working on her scrapbook, etc. With Lincoln, I catch myself forgetting to do those things at times. In fact, I haven't even started Lincoln's scrapbook. It's as if he is developing faster and I can't keep up.

In the past month, he has learned to clap his hands, sit up by himself for more than a minute, put his paci in his mouth by himself, roll over, and tried new foods. He is such a happy baby that even when Eden just enters the room, he cackles. He loves it when she hugs him plays with him. It melts my heart to see them play together.

New Projects

These are matching outfits I made for Eden and Lincoln. They are both Gingham fabrics. Instead of doing buttons for the top of Eden's dress I did ribbons so it would look like a pillowcase dress. A friend of mine at the Library lapsit gave me the patterns and I am so grateful for them. I would like to get them monogrammed. I can't wait to make a romper for my little nephew, Eli.

I still vividly remember holding my precious Eden in my arms for the first time. I didn't realize then how time would go by so fast. She has been such a blessing to our family and we are grateful each day that God has allowed us to be her parents.

Her fun personality showed early on. She is such a joy to be around.

This was her 1 year-old-picture dress and believe it or not, it still fits. She is so petite.

Between then and now she has visited two other countries (Belize and Guatemala); increased her vocabulary to the point where she is now forming sentences; memorized the alphabet, colors and shapes (she even knows how to spell her name); used the potty several times; enjoyed being a big sister and the list goes on. I am so proud of her.

As a family tradition, on the actual birthday, we break out the 'You are special today' plate for breakfast, put a candle in a stack of pancakes, and sing 'Happy Birthday'.

She is our sweet princess and we look forward to seeing her grow up (hopefully not too fast). Thank you Lord for allowing us the privilege of being her parents. We love you, Eden Maeve.

Lincoln is 5 mths!

Ok, so I'm late posting this but better late than never. Lincoln is such a big boy. I'm so used to my little petite Eden that Lincoln seems like a chunk. We're convinced he's going to be a football player.

He is so playful and loves watching Eden entertain him. Occasionally he will pull on Eden's hair as she goes to hug on him. Eden says "No, no, Lincoln."

I love that he gets so excited when I hand him a toy. His eyes cross as he's concentrating and he stretches his arms out to get the toy. He's so cute.

He likes to gargle with his spit, which I think is hilarious; and, he is teething so there's drool everywhere.

He is such a happy baby and I love him:)

Nursing Shawl

Duvalin!

As a kid attending Belmopan Junior School, I remember going to 'Coolie's Cart' to buy snack during recess. A frequent buy was Duvalin. Duvalin is milk candy which combines flavors like, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and caramel or "cajeta".

Our sweet friends Brock and Heather Hower sent some to us from Mexico and I was so excited to give one to Eden. She loved it (then again, who wouldn't love the taste of melted chocolate). It was neat to have memories from my childhood flood my mind; as well as, have my daughter experience a little of what I remember as a Belizean child.

My sweet boy is growing so fast. He gets more and more handsome everyday. I love that he can interact with people. Eden loves that he laughs at her when she's being silly. Some of the things that he's doing are:

Making spit bubbles
Laughing when tickled

Sucking on his two fingers (if there's not a paci nearby)

Doll House

I decided the other day to save the pampers box and make a doll house for Eden. I will be quick to admit that I know very little about architecture and interior design but I sure did have fun. Thanks to duck tape and wood glue, I was able to make stairs, bed, toilet, kitchenette, and a living room. Eden added a special touch to the upstairs room with her very own art work. She is so excited that her baby dolls can now watch Elmo too. I don't think this is going to last very long but at least I had fun making it. Daddy (Ben) will probably build her one when she's a little older.

Children's Museum

Ben and I took the kids to our Children's Museum one weekend along with my brother and his wife. We weren't sure if Eden was going to like it or not but she had a blast. Most of the stations were geared towards older children but they did have activities for Toddlers. I think us adults ended up having just as much fun:) Lincoln enjoyed himself as well must he slept most of the time.

Lapsit Storytime!

So I've been meaning to take the kids to the Destrehan Library for a while now for Lapsit Storytime. I haven't been able to make it until today and now I wonder why I didn't go before. Today was water play and the kids had so much fun. Even Lincoln splashed in the pool. It was so neat to spend time with other moms. I haven't really been a part of any group like this before. I'm thinking about joining MOPS as well but until then, my kids and I can enjoy free entertainment. Here are some pics from this morning.

My precious boy is now 3 months and such a big boy (compared to my little Eden). I love his little personality!! I tried to capture some of them for his 3 month home photo shoot. I love this boy so much and that he brings smiles to my face. He was able to get all the shots needed at his 2 month appt., so he can skip his 3 mth well baby checkup. I'm thinking he is about 13-14 lbs. He is growing out of his bassinet. Tonight, he moves into the crib:)

Reunion/July4th

We went to Birmingham and Virginia for our vacation this year. It was great to spend some time with our friends Todd, Michelle and Erik. We also had a great time at the Roseberry Family Reunion. It was such nice weather and scenery. Everyone had a great time.

Father's Day 09

We spent this year's Father's Day in Lake Charles with Ben's parents. We had so much fun!! On Saturday we went to some friends' house to swim. We had the pool all to ourselves and we all really enjoyed ourselves. That evening Ben and I went on a date since we celebrated our 5th anniversary the day before. It was nice to have time to ourselves for a couple of hours. On Sunday, we went to church, took Father's Day pictures and had a yummy lunch. Eden then gave her Daddy and Grandaddy gifts. She had a blast. Lincoln was such a good baby the entire weekend - traveling and all.

Patty Update

How amazing is God's creation. We have been observing the life cycle of a butterfly and each day Eden and I look to see the changes. Patty is now a free butterfly and it was nice knowing her:)

Ben brought home from work last Fri. a Butterfly Weed with a caterpillar on it. We thought it would be neat to show Eden Metamorphosis. I have to say Ben and I have enjoyed looking at it too. Update on Kiddos!

Having my parents here for the past two months has been such a blessing and it was sad to say bye. I really appreciate all the help.

Eden is such a social butterfly. She has come in contact with so many people these last couple weeks. My brother got married so we've had a lot of family in town. She's so used to having lots of people around that now she doesn't know what to do with herself.

Two nights ago she fell out of her crib. I guess she tried to climb out and ended up on her bottom. She cried for a little and then was fine. She is so brave that I've even thought about putting her in gymnastics in a year or so. She will climb on anything without fear. Anyway, I pulled her crib mattress out and set up a temporary big girl bed on the floor for her. She loves it.

Eden has her first Science Experiment. A friend gave us a butterfly weed with a caterpillar on it so we've been documenting its life cycle. Eden love to stare at it and occasionally try to touch it.

Lincoln is such a chunk. I'm not used to having a heavy baby - Eden was so tiny. He is growing so fast and enjoys being in his swing now. He just loves watching Eden.

My brother's wedding was so much fun. Ben even danced with me and Eden. It was so sweet. I am so happy for my brother and my new sis and pray God's blessings on their marriage.

I'm so amazed at how much my Eden is growing. This child talks like talking is going to go out of style. Sometimes I'm not sure what she's saying but most of the time she uses real words. Some of her favorite things to say are: stuck, apple juice, Lili(Lincoln), choo choo, baby. I have to say, her diction is really good.

The cutest thing ever, though, is when she sings. She loves to sing and is for the most part in tune. Some of her favorite songs to sing are: Row, Row, Row; ABC (yes she can sing the alphabet); Twinkle, Twinkle; God made me. She can also count to 10. I saw her counting the beads on one of her Mardi Gras beads the other day and was amazed.

Ok, so I'm bragging but it's just so incredible how much she is retaining and I'm just so proud of her. I really want to start teaching her Bible verses because she has such a good memory. I'll let you know when she's memorized her fist verse. Maybe I'll have a video.

Mother's Day!

I had a wonderful Mother's Day this year. I was able to celebrate with my mom at Earthsavers for a pedicure and it was definitely much needed. Not being able to reach my toes for months left them in quite a mess. I am so proud to be the mother of two wonderful children and thankful that the Lord has blessed Ben and me in such a fabulous way.

Lincoln's 1st visit to the pediatrician. He's already gained 2.4 ounces. He is a healthy baby boy.

Wow, how time has flown. We remember holding our sweet angel for the first time October 13, 2007 at 7:17 am. She was a petite 5 lbs 6 ozs and all the nurses called her peanut. Every day has been a great experience as she has grown so much and is learning new things everyday. Lord willing, we will be having another little one tomorrow and we are so excited to see our little family grow. Eden, Daddy and Momma love you so very much and we look forward to seeing you be a big sister.

Well, I had my appt this past Tues and the doctor suggested that I have an induction because he doesn't want me to go pass my due date. He wanted to do it today but I asked if we could do it Mon instead. I wanted to go as close to my due date as possible.

So, as of now, I am scheduled to be at the hospital Mon. morning at 4 am. Please pray for a healthy and safe labor, delivery and baby boy. We are all sick here and I'm hoping we can all get better before Mon. I'm taking Tylenol cold and trying to get as much rest as possible.

So I realized that I haven't updated my blog in a few days and some of you are wondering if baby boy is here yet. Well, not he's not! He's still hanging out:) I'm so-o-o ready even though my due date isn't until 9 days. I'm trying to be patient!! My next appt is this coming Tuesday.

In the meantime I've been keeping myself occupied by playing with Eden. I bought some small hair curlers and put them in Eden's hair. She was so good while I was putting them in and actually kept them in through her nap. When I took them out she was so cute. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to leave them in long enough this morning for church so the curls fell out quickly.

Yesterday, Tues. April 7th, I had my weekly doctor's appt. At that time I was dilated 1-2cm and effaced 50%. I had contractions the night before but they didn't last. It's very interesting this time around because with Eden I was in the hospital at 1cm and had her within 7 hours. I haven't had any noticeable contractions all day today so it's weird. I have my bags packed and I'm ready any time to head to the hospital. I am just so ready to meet my sweet boy. My doctor offered for me to schedule an induction but I chose not to. It was really neat how I just naturally went into labor with Eden and even my water broke naturally. Of course, I wouldn't go pass my due date and my doctor wouldn't allow it, anyway.

I am waiting patiently for God's timing trusting and praying that labor and delivery will go smoothly without any complications and that I will soon be holding a healthy baby boy.

I am so excited that Ben decided to get my birthday present early this year. He figured he would need to learn how to use it for when we're in the hospital. My old camera dropped and was only working sometimes. I would get so frustrated because it was so unpredictable. It's funny because I felt like how Kate did with her camera on the show John & Kate plus 8. Anyway, I've been having fun especially photographing my Eden.

One of the things that I've put off is organizing Eden's clothes that she's outgrown. I found these Ziploc big bags. The seal well and therefore would work well in the attic. I have a list of things to get done before baby boy comes and it feels great to scratch one thing off the list.

Baby boy has been pressing on my sciatic nerve and that's no good for me. It has caused incredible pain down my right leg to the point where I can't even move sometimes. I really don't like being restricted from doing things especially playing with my Eden but I am realizing it's high time I take it easy.

Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who helps with giving Eden a bath, plays with her on the floor and cleans the kitchen every night. He's so great I don't know what I'd do without him. I am also grateful that my in-laws are taking Eden for a week. I will miss her but it will be nice to get some rest before baby boy comes.

While Becca was here this weekend we decided to take some maternity photos. When I was pregnant with Eden, I took monthly profile pictures but since I haven't done that this time around I figure I'd do something special. I feel as if I'm not paying as much attention to baby boy as I did with Eden. Becca has quite the eye for good shots and I have to say the pictures turned out really good.

Well, I only have ten more weeks of pregnancy (unless baby boy decides to come earlier). I am definitely feeling that the time is drawing near. The constant back pain, shortness of breath, and frequency of using the bathroom are starting to get old. I know I speaking as if this is my first pregnancy but it's been a totally different experience for the most part.

I guess I'm more tired because this time around I'm running behind a 1 year old. I am so glad that she is walking. Also, baby boy is in a lower position than Eden was so it makes my back hurt more. Even wearing maternity pants gets to be annoying sometimes because he is so low. He also feels bigger. I have to say though, that I am grateful for every movement even if it hurts. I can feel him hiccuping a lot. It's the weirdest feeling.

I'm in the nesting phase and am now realizing I better get things done before I'm not physically able to. This week, I plan on organizing Eden's clothes so that Ben can put them in the attic; cleaning the nursery big time and pulling the bassinet in my room; pulling out my nursing gear; and, making a list of everthing I need for a boy.

I'm excited about Becca (my sis-in-law) practicing her photography skills in a couple weeks as we attempt some maternity photos. I took belly profile pictures when I was pregnant with Eden but this time around we're going to do more posed pics. I think Audubon Park will be a nice setting in addition to here at the house.

We are almost certain on a name but like last time we're not going to tell. We'll keep it a surprise :) We can't wait to meet our sweet boy and see Eden as a big sister. We've already been teaching her how to feed a baby and be gentle with a baby. I think she's going to do great.

A Tropical Christmas!!!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas as we celebrated another year of Christ's birth. This year our little family traveled across the gulf to Belize. We spend one year with my family, one year with Ben's family and one year at our house. This has been seen we were married and it has worked out well. My parents were so happy to have us there with them.

Here are some highlights from our trip:

Going and coming, the flights were uneventful (thank God). We weren't sure how Eden was going to do with the flights and layover but she did great. I'm so proud of her.

All except for two days we went somewhere: San Ignacio, Melchor (Guatemala), Placencia, and Belize City. Yes, in one trip Eden visited two countries. It was fun but I had a hard time with the bumpy roads and speed bumps (no - hills). Baby boy is doing great, though. He lets me know very frequently that he's still there.

Christmas day was special: We woke up had a small breakfast, my dad read from the book of Luke about Christ's birth and then we opened gifts. Eden had fun opening presents and ended up with quite a few Elmo things (toy, cd, dvd). We then had Christmas dinner around 1 pm with some family friends. It was a feast. A typical Belizean Christmas dinner consists of Rice and Beans, Turkey, Ham, Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry, Plantains, Dinner Rolls, and Potatoe Salad. For dessert we had the option of Black Fruit Cake, White Pecan Cake, Irish Christmas Cake, or just plain old white cake. We were stuffed.

That evening we started a Carpenter Family Tradition. From now on, each of our children will put together a box of goodies for a poor Belizean child their age and give them for Christmas. So this year we found a family with a little girl Eden's age and gave her a container with bowls, spoons, toys, blanket, and a little sweater. It was so neat mostly for me and even though Eden had no idea what was going on it will be a treasured memory.

We spent our last day at the beach in Placencia. It was so windy so the water was too cool to swim in but we took a little pool so Eden could play in the water. The weather was so nice.

Eden met her Uncle Sean, Aunt Gayla and cousins for the first time and she had fun. It was great to see them again.

Overall, we had a wonderful time. My parents spoiled us with a suite in the Bed & Breakfast and we enjoyed spending time with them.

It's a Boy!!!

Our 2nd ulatrasound was today and we found out that we're having a healthy baby boy. Hey is only a pound and a half right now but loves to move around. He is perfectly healthy. Eden was so excited to see the baby on the screen. She did so well at the appointment as Ben was able to hold her so she could see. We are so blessed with this wonderful news and can't wait to meet our sweet boy in person. Please pray for continued healthy pregnancy. Ultrasound pictures to come soon. Our due date is April 21.

Snow in New Orleans?

Yes, I'm sure most of you heard about the snow we had last Thursday. Eden and I had just woken up about 7:30 when Ben called to say he was coming home because it was snowing. I peeked out the window and sure enough. Beautiful flakes were falling. I opened the door and Eden said "wow". She was so excited. I bundled her up the best I could considering we don't own the proper clothing for snow, and stepped out. It was beautiful.

Thanksgiving '08

Our little family travelled 8 hours to spend Thanksgiving with Ben's grandparents in South Georgia. This was the first time travelling this far with Eden and she did great. We stopped 3 times each way and had the portable DVD player for her to watch videos incase she got fussy.

It was the first time Ben's grandparents met Eden and they just had a ball. We wish it hadn't rained three out of the four days we were there but we had some much needed rest and family time.

Everytime we get together with Becca, we plan (or Abby plans) for family pictures. She is our personal photographer and she is good at it. We had our Christmas picture taken as well as other candid shots. Here are some:

Ben and I decided recently that we ought to let Eden spend a week with Ben's parents before we flew to Belize for Christmas. We had several reasons for doing this: Eden would have alone time with her grandparents, we would have time for ourselves for a little, we could focus more on baby #2, and we could get some Christmas shopping done without worrying about Eden's schedule.

They drove here last Friday to spend the night and go to the zoo the next morning. They drove back to Lake Charles taking Eden with them that Saturday evening. It worked out well because Eden had a chance to spend a few hours with them, with momma and daddy nearby, so that the transition wouldn't be hard on her. She's been doing great so far in Lake Charles. She loves their dog Zeke and is still on her sleep schedule. It's funny because several grandmothers in their church are a little jealous that their kids haven't done the same.

We miss our sweet little girl, especially me because I stay home with Eden. I had a doctor's appt. this week so it was nice not having to take her with me. We've also got some shopping done. I guess the one thing that really has been a blessing is that I've been able to spend time in the Word. I've been teaching Grades 1-3 Sunday School and we are studying the book of Matthew. I have been learning a lot myself.

We plan on picking up Eden this coming Sunday in Covington as Ben's parents will be travelling to Georgia. We are looking forward to having our little girl back. You know, it's funny because I just assumed that a lot of parents do this sort of thing but a lot of grandparents that I've spoken with were a little jealous. You moms and dads out there, it is really a great opportunity to spend quality time with your spouse and it is also such a great blessing for the grandparents. If you ever have a chance to do it, I recommend it. Even if it's only a couple days. You will definitely miss your kids but none-the-less worth it.

Our church had a Trunk or Treat whereby we could decorate our trunks and pass out candy and tracks to kids in the neighborhood. We decided to do a pumpkin patch and Eden our little pumpkin. We all had fun.

Yes, I am 10 weeks pregnant and sick as a dog. I had an ultrasound yesterday and the baby is healthy. I even have pictures on my fridge already. We are so excited that our little family is growing. Regarding Eden's shirt, I made a couple of them to see if anyone would notice. It was fun when she wore it to church. Anyway, Eden's going tp have a little playmate.

Well, it's been a while but a lot has happened. We've been in Lake Charles with Ben's parents for over a week as a result of Gustav. It was nice to be with them.
We drove back to NO yesterday and staying with some family in Luling (about 10 min from our house). The wind was pretty strong that a huge tree limb fell on our electrical wire, ben the pole and destroyed half of our deck rails. We did not get any damage to the house and we're grateful for that. We have an electrician going to the house today and hopefully the power company can come tomorrow to hook us back up.
Eden has been such a trooper. I can tell she's ready to be back home but she has been such a good baby in the midst of all the drama. Anyway, we are waiting to unpack until we know for sure where Ike is headed.
Thanks for all the prayers. God has been gracious and we're just our little family is together. Ben went back to work today so things are starting to get back to normal..

Father's Day Card

I know Father's Day '08 is long gone but I had to show you the card Eden and I made. I traced her hands with color pencils for the outside and taped a picture of her and Ben on the inside. She had so much fun. I thought it was going to be very difficult but it was actually not bad.

One thing Ben and I are discovering about parenthood is that we get so excited to finally have a handle on Eden's new accomplishments only to find out we're back to square one in a few days. She is growing so fast and we are so proud of her.

We were so excited when she started to crawl. Now we have to keep a close watch on her. Her favorite thing to go after are Ben's chess pieces. She pulls up on the chess table. We don't really want to drastically re-decorate unless the items are potentially dangerous. We hope consistent discipline will do the trick.
